National Cup drama as Athlone take down Dublin giant Templeogue! It was a performance to remember from the Lakesiders tonight in the Bower as we welcomed divisi...on 1 team Templeogue in the NICC cup. The lads would race out to an early lead with 2 3 pointers each from Coogan, Flynn and Duggan-o Hara. And it was a lead they would not relinquish for the entire game. The Dublin team featuring many ex superleague players were not going to be beaten easily and had many fine scores most notably from the athletic M Gordon who lead their fight back. However Athlones blitz defence from the entire squad just would not crack and proved to be the difference between the teams. The fast breaking offense from Athlone finished out the game with style and an 11 point victory. Final score 84-73. A massive thank you to all the supporters who came out tonight. Save some energy for Sunday as we take on team Baltai in the MABB cup final in what will be another bruising encounter. Let’s get the 6th man behind the team again. Let’s get behind team Athlone this Friday, 8.15pm, as the National cup returns.

Tonight our Midlands Team welcome Old Leighlin to the Bower Athlone. Athlone were looking to start the New Year with a win against a team that sits second in th...e league. Athlone started well and with three pointers from Simon Flynn and Tommy Coogan they led 17-13 after the first quarter. The second quarter seen Old Leighlin begin to pull Athlone back in and with 4 minutes left in the quarter had managed to build a 5 point lead. Athlone now realised they had a game on there hands. With solid defence from Steve Mannion and points from Darren O’Hara Athlone regained the lead and were up 36-27 at the half. Athlone had what looked like a close game on our hand at the half way point. Then Athlone showed just exactly what they are capable of! This will go down as one of the best quarters of basketball played all season. With scores from 7 different Athlone players and a team defence that was almost impenetrable Athlone won the quarter by 23-2 and started the 4th quarter leading 59-29. In the last quarter Athlone kept the visitors from getting back into the game and won with a score line of 70-48. Credit must go to Old Leighlin who travelled with a large squad from Carlow on a dark wet night. On a different day if baskets had fallen the game would have been close. A great team performance from Athlone begins a hectic January schedule for the team. Next home game is Friday the 17th next. This sees a return of the National Cup to Athlone with Tempelogue the away team. So just though I’d give a quick update on how my own weight loss/fitness journey is going. Originally I was about 18 stone (114kg) then when I posted my last update on the 14/02/19 I was just under 14 stone(87kg). I am happy to say that I am currently just under 13 stone (82kg) and going strong.
Since February I have continued with training and kept my diet on point with MyNutriChef meals. I have increased my effort in the gym with help from @andynevv. Andy has been a massive... help from both a guidance and motivational point of view. I could not recommend him more as a personal trainer.
As I have said before your diet is a massive part of weight loss. You can work out all you want but if you are not eating properly then you won’t see results. The meals really are a massive help not only cause of the calorie counting and macro information but also, with just how handy they are. The last thing you want to do in the evening when you get home is prepare a dinner.
I am still going to push on and try to continue with my weigh-loss and as I am starting to see results in body definition from the gym I am more motivated than ever.
